UGC Notice: Major Update on Guidelines for Pursuing Two Academic Programmes Simultaneously – June 2025
📅 Date of Notification: 5th June 2025
📌 Issued By: University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education, Govt. of India
📝 Reference: D.O. No.F.1-6/2007 (CPP-II)(Comp.No.108737)
🔔 Important Update:
In its 589th meeting held on 3rd April 2025, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a partial modification of its guidelines related to pursuing two academic programmes simultaneously. This update affects point no. 5 of the original guidelines.
🆚 What’s Changed?
Existing Provision (Old Rule) | New Modification (Updated Rule) |
---|---|
The guidelines would apply only from the date of notification. Students who had already pursued two academic programmes before the notification were not eligible for retrospective benefit. | The guidelines still apply from the notification date. However, students who had pursued two academic programmes before the notification—in accordance with UGC, university statutes, and other professional council norms—will now be treated as valid. |
✅ What This Means for Students:
-
If you completed two academic programmes simultaneously before the UGC’s official notification and did so following the UGC First Degree/Master Degree Regulations, university statutes, and Distance Education norms, your qualifications will now be considered valid.
-
This is a relief and recognition for thousands of students who had pursued dual degrees in compliance with existing norms but were previously not eligible for validation under the earlier UGC policy.
🏫 Instructions to Institutions:
All universities and their affiliated colleges/institutions are directed to implement this updated guideline for the benefit of students.
